We Call Them "The Cat Days of Summer"

Summer is the busiest time of year for the APA (and other animal shelters) when it comes to accepting homeless kittens and cats and working to find loving families to care for them. If you’ve been thinking about adoption, this is a great time to come in and get acquainted with the fabulous felines now in our shelter.

On an average day, we have 100 to 125 healthy, happy kitties of all ages, sizes, breeds and colors waiting to meet their new families. Visit our adoptions page to see pictures and up-to-the- minute listings of our current residents. They have been screened for health and behavior problems, given basic shots, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. Now they’re ready to join the 75 million cats already enjoying life in U.S. households.

Here are some interesting facts about cats:

  • They’re now the most popular pets in America, outnumbering dogs 75 million to 60 million.
  • Two in five pet parents say they have more photos of their pets than of their spouses!
  • 94% of pet parents say their pets make them smile at least once a day.
  • The life expectancy of cats has doubled since 1930, to 16 years today.
  • Owning a cat can lower your blood pressure and increase the length of your life
